General Summary of Position
  • This role is responsible for emerging smart technologies and their supportive systems with experience working with complex hardware design, firmware programming and IoT connectivity. He/She will contribute to new technologies research, concept development and rapid prototyping activities, and will support development of new products and processes as guided to support Ansell industrial business unit.
  • He/she will work with team to design, test and validate product during all stages of development. This would include developing new test protocols and identifying/building lab testing equipment to ensure product performance. He/she will collaborate with development partners, IT, product managers and other key functions to ensure clear communication and consistent Best Practice implementation of hardware and electronic textiles-related product development initiatives. He/She will study Ansell’s current systems and procedures and recommend solutions to help new product or new service development operate more efficiently and effectively.
  • In addition, this position will manage assigned development and improvement projects to drive value for Ansell internal stakeholders and for our customers. This position will lead or support new product commercialization and launch efforts including evaluation, development, procurement and start-up of new products and processes.
Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities
  • Hardware/electronics/IOT Research and Design
  • Working with the team to design, test and validate hardware+firmware and e-textile products before interaction with customer and to facilitate the set-up of wearable electronics systems.
  • Create communication collateral such as case studies
  • Research emerging smart technologies to determine if pursuing them for product development will be beneficial to Ansell’s current or adjacent product and service offerings to our customers.
  • Devise methods to add IOT functionality to existing Ansell product and services to drive value for our customers.
  • Prototype building related to the research conducted and methods devised, including physical prototyping and/or programming/app/software writing.
  • Design lab experiments to test hardware, sensors and other electronics for design downselection and performance verification and validation.
  • Prepare cost and benefits analysis on hardware design options for R&D to determine financial benefit.
  • Consult with IT, Marketing and other functions to support project teams with guidance related NPD execution and to recommend improvements to reduce complexity and increase speed to market.
R&D Project Management
  • Consult with IT, Marketing and other functions to support project teams with guidance related NPD execution and to recommend improvements to reduce complexity and increase speed to market.
  • Assist in the identification and evaluation of technologies with application to support product development and research initiatives across GBU verticals.
  • Act as Project Manager or Project Technical lead as assigned for product development and improvement projects in support of GBU verticals.
Financial responsibilities:
1. Seek and recommend improvements of R&D and department process for cost savings and ROI.
Key Position Requirements
Bachelors degree in electrical or computer engineering or related field
Job Experience
  • 3+ years experience in area of electrical/computer engineering and/or research (advanced degree will be considered)
  • Experience developing hardware and system level specifications
  • Experience developing hardware verification and functional test plans
  • Comfortable in a lab environment using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other common test equipment
  • Experience designing high volume products and dealing with contract manufacturers is desired
  • Project Management preferred
  • Experience working within a global matrix organization preferred
