Data Engineer
  • Our division is currently seeking a Data Engineer located in our Saint John, N.B head office.
  • The Data Engineer is someone who is willing to 'jump right in' to help the team from the ground up, by recommending any required tools, designing and building data pipelines. This role will play a major part in driving our data-centric culture and will work closely with our Data Science Team and various businesses within the Transportation and Logistics division.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Develop, construct, test and maintain architectures which include how data is collected, stored arranged, integrated, and used in data systems/organizations
  • Work alongside the Data Science team to organize, shape and provide access to end data to allow them to deploy ML models
  • Collaborate with JDI IT to ensure alignment to organizational standards and best practices
  • Assist in creating a data catalog and data dictionary that explains data in both technical and business terms
  • Publish artifacts for warehousing and business insight / reporting platforms while assisting stakeholders through exploration
  • Ensure that data pipelines and data stores are high-performing, efficient, organized and reliable, given a specific set of business requirements and constraints
  • Implement standard related to data set processes (e.g., how is data to be properly blended, cleaned, visualized, and modeled)
  • Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality (e.g. data quality dashboards)
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong programming language skills (e.g. Python, C#, Java, or SQL)
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud environment with data related services (AWS or GCP experience is also considered an asset)
  • Good understanding of extract, transform and load (ETL) tools and REST-orientated APIs for creating and managing data integration jobs to provide Data Analytics and business users with simplified access to prepared data sets
  • Ability to deal with structured and semi-structured data, with knowledge of RDBMS and Data Lake concepts with hands on experience in SQL Server, Azure Synapse, or Azure Data Lake
  • Experience with designing, developing, and implementing Enterprise Data Warehousing, ETL and real-time / batch data exchanges and working with related technologies such as SSIS and Azure Data Factory
  • Communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts into easy-to-understand language for our stakeholders
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent quantitative science
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role with a proven track record of delivering impactful results
Nice to haves:
  • Experience deploying ETL solutions with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics – D365 & Power BI
  • Azure IoT experience
  • Azure DP-200, 201, or 203 certification
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
