  • Collins Aerospace Integrated Air Data Systems team produces sensors that are integral to the safe flight of commercial, military, and business aircraft. Our products measure air pressure and calculate the air speed, altitude, angle-of-attack, angle-of-sideslip, and other critical flight information used by pilots around the world.
  • Our products are used by commercial airlines, business jets, and military aircraft and have been for over 30 years. Our future holds interesting challenges with new ways of measuring air data as well as new aircraft – urban air mobility, helicopters, as well as our traditional product lines.
  • Your job as a Principal Software Engineer will be to plan, develop, design, and execute embedded software development according to the objectives of DO-178B/C.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create, monitor, and approve software artifacts.
  • Interface with external customers and certification authorities.
  • Interface with internal cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and execute software standard work.
  • Provide estimations for new software pursuits and rework activities.
  • Lead medium to large software teams include outsource and offshore organizations.
  • Requirements generation, design and architecture development, integration, verification, validation, and document for existing and new safety critical products.
  • Execution of development process is in accordance to RTCA DO-178B/C, for new safety critical products.
  • Monitor and report project execution using standard metrics for scheduling and budget to leadership.
  • Software and hardware system integration tasks on target hardware.
  • Model Base Design techniques used in the development life cycle process.
  • Provide technical leadership to the team.
  • Develop and demonstrate a deep technical understanding of product families.
  • Coach and mentor software team.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering experience developing safety critical embedded software products in a regulated industry
  • Experience in embedded design
  • Proficient in C Programming Language
