Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
  • 5 years of experience with Linux kernel development, and software and hardware architecture
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects
  • Experience working with open source projects and contributions to the upstream Linux kernel
  • Experience in using and developing features for Linux in shipping products, and in debugging and instrumenting complex problems involving multiple operating system components and tools
About the job
  • As a Staff Software Engineer on the ChromeOS kernel team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the base operating system of ChromeOS devices. This includes the development of new features to support the ChromeOS roadmap, bug fixing, integrating new code from upstream projects, and upstreaming ChromeOS code to open source projects outside Google. In this role, you will play a key role in creating the leading edge of Chrome OS devices.

Additional Information
(Colorado only*) Minimum salary of $183,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.
  • Lead device development
  • Develop new features in various areas of the kernel
  • Partner with other teams in their use of specific kernel features (e.g. tool development for said features)
  • Find and fix bugs in the kernel related to Chrome OS platforms and features
  • Participate in feature planning discussions, cross-team meetings to collaborate with other developers, and maintain partnerships with third-party contractors and vendors as needed
